Senior Colleen
Shelby Mason
Shelby Mason was crowned the 2020 West Springfield Senior Colleen on January 25th with her family by her side. Shelby is a longtime resident of West Springfield where she and her late husband raised their children, whom also call Westside their home. Shelby has been active in her community throughout the years serving as secretary to her church council, volunteering at monthly veterans’ lunches and was once a Boy Scout leader.
Shelby enjoyed a long and successful career as an administrative assistant for Big Y Corporation. Sadly, she lost her beloved husband and best friend of thirty seven years to lung cancer in 2018. Shelby was along his side throughout all of his treatments. Throughout their journey she realized many survivors were fighting their battles alone, some even relying on public transportation to get them to their treatments. This experience has now inspired her to expand her goodwill and volunteerism to other cancer survivors who are ‘going it alone’ to provide rides and accompany them to treatments and appointments. Shelby and her family honor their Irish heritage by having the Celtic cross engraved on her husband’s monument. When Shelby is not spending time with her family or helping others she enjoys traveling, a night out with her son to the casino and loves a good laugh!
Please join the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee of West Springfield in congratulating Shelby as the 2020 Senior Colleen.
